Our latest Members' Gathering was held on Sunday, January 10, 2010, 2:00-5:00 pm in the
beautiful Fourth Floor Ballroom at the Sheldon Concert Hall, 3648 Washington Ave, St. Louis,
MO 63108. Our attendance of nearly 100 people was double the attendance we had for our first
Gathering back on September 13! We welcome the many of you who have become new
Members, and appreciate your participation.
We were treated to ensemble performances by students from both St. Louis
Bella Corda, the performing group from the St. Louis Academy for Guitar, led
by Kirk Hanser; and the Webster University Guitar Ensemble, directed by
John McClellan. Following that, we assembled participating members into an
orchestra of 26 guitarists, with Kirk Hanser and William Ash sharing conducting duties.
Six pieces of various styles were performed--and with no previous rehearsal!
The experiment turned out to be a grand success, with fine music-making all around--a
program very well-received. We congratulate all the participants for a job well done!

fun event, please go to the "Membership" heading and click on "Events."
Letter from the President
A Message from Guitar Society President
William Ash
Welcome to the upcoming Winter/Spring Season of the St. Louis Classical
Guitar Society concerts! This has indeed been a special year, dedicated to the
memory of my late wife Kathleen. It has been a whirlwind of activity, a year
of growth and positive change. I'd like to mention some of the highlights.
First of all, all of us on the Board are sincerely grateful for the tremendous
positive response we've received by so many of you who've contributed to
"Kathy's Fund," the KJEA Memorial Fund. We've achieved our goal of $10,000 by December 31, 2009,
and those of you who gave $100 or more will now be always recognized as its Charter Members. You
should find your name on our list! (There were also many of you who could not afford to give a larger
gift, but your participation is equally appreciated.) This is a tremendous tribute to Kathy, and will ensure
that the groundwork she has laid for us shall never be forgotten. The Fund will continue to be open to
donations at any time. (Kathy's "animating force" was recently acknowledged by Sarah Bryan Miller in
the St. Louis Post-Dispatch 12/27/09, p. E4).
Our new Members'Gatherings have been a great success! (Please see more under Society News to the left.)
We now have Guitar Society T-shirts, tote bags, coffee mugs, keychains and gift certificates that we feel
make great gifts. Please come see them at concert intermissions--all profits will go towards Kathy's Fund
this year!
