  • Week of November 9, 2015: Highlights: Known as an innovator during the bossa nova movement in 1960s Brazil, Edu Lobo's compositions are cultural classics in South American and internationally. The Brasil Guitar Duo's 2012 release 'Zansibar - The Music of Edu Lobo' features the music of Lobo for two guitars, arranged by João Luiz, member of the duo with Douglas Lora.

  • Week of November 2, 2015: Highlights: Tune in for John Clayton's account of our recent Fundraiser "Play it Forward" which occurred at the Shaved Duck restaurant. Music by Jorge Morel, and a preview of Duo Mirić--Tanja and Darka Mirić--who visit nine local schools in Bosnian neighborhoods, and perform on November 7 in their St. Louis debut at the Ethical Society.

  • Week of October 26, 2015: Highlights: We begin sampling the new 2-CD issue entitled “Thibault Cauvin” (Sony Classical 88875096912/2) featuring Thibault Cauvin, guitar. An eclectic mix of popular, beautiful selections spanning four centuries, from Sanz, Bach, Mertz, de Falla, Jobin, Bogdanovic, and Sergio Assad.

  • Week of October 19, 2015: Highlights: Theme is "Guitar and Strings," with music by J.S. Bach played by Dusan Bogdanovic, guitar, and Elaine Comparone, harpsichord; Antonio Vivaldi, with Eliot Fisk, guitar, Albert Fuller, harpsichord; and Niccolo Paganini, with Julian Gray, guitar, Roberto Díaz, viola, and Andrés Díaz, ‘cello.

  • Week of October 12, 2015: Highlights: A look ahead at the upcoming concert by the Brasil Guitar Duo, exploring their new CD entitled "Leo Brouwer: Music for Two Guitars. Program includes compositions from 1957 to 2009, including Triptico (1958) to the monumental Sonata de Los Viajeros (2009), performed on their October 17 recital to a standing ovation by the St. Louis audience prior to the ending of the program!

    HIGHLIGHTS: We listen to music of our first 2015-16 Seasonal Performer, Swedish guitarist JOHANNES MÖLLER, performing music of Agustin Barrios, Julio Regondi, Karel Craeyvanger, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and his own composition "Poem to a Distant Fire." Also announcing the evolution of our organizational structure, with new Board leadership, and our educators now working in St. Louis Public schools.

Recorded performances of the performers to open the Society's 2015-16 Season: Johannes Möller performs Introduction and Variations on a Theme from C.M. von Weber's opera " Der Freischütz," as well as the cadenza from the Concerto for Guitar and Small Orchestra by Heitor Villa-Lobos; Tanja and Darka Mirić perform Spanish Dance #2 of Enrique Granados, plus Micropieza #5 of Leo Brouwer; and assorted Brazilian music from the Brasil Guitar Duo, João Luiz and Douglas Lora.
